Sweetgrass Braid (4–5 in.)

A compact braid of sweetgrass with a soft vanilla-like scent. In many Indigenous traditions of North America, sweetgrass is a sacred plant — sometimes called holy grass, vanilla grass, or the hair of Mother Earth. It is used to bless a space, invite good energy, and carry prayer.

Unlike sage, which is often burned to clear a room, sweetgrass is traditionally used to call in what you want to keep: peace, kindness, harmony, and welcome. Many people burn sage first, then sweetgrass afterward to refill the space with warmth.

How to use Hold the braid over a heat-safe bowl or shell. Light the tip, then gently blow out the flame so it smolders and releases smoke. Fan the smoke through the space, around a doorway, or over yourself. When you are finished, press the lit end into sand or the bowl until it is fully out. You can relight the same braid.

Use in a well-ventilated room. Never leave burning sweetgrass unattended. Keep away from children, pets, drafts, and anything flammable.
